Summer Analyst - Real Estate Research with StepStone via Summer on the Cuyahoga

Internship Description:
StepStone is currently seeking candidates with excellent quantitative, qualitative and interpersonal skills for an intern position on StepStone’s Real Estate Team. StepStone offers Summer Interns an opportunity to achieve valuable learning experiences working across the real estate private equity industry. Through analysis of opportunistic, value-add, core and credit funds, Summer Interns gain exposure to a wide array of property types, markets and capital structures and become accustomed to a variety of real estate private equity funds and investment strategies.

The Summer Interns will work in a team environment to target and perform due diligence on opportunities across the Real Estate team’s three investment verticals: real estate private equity fund investments, co-investment transactions and secondaries transactions. The intern will have the opportunity to prepare and present recommendations, with the investment team, to the Real Estate Investment Committee and to the Real Estate team’s client base of institutional investors.

Essential Internship Functions

Perform market research using publicly available information and proprietary databases to identify, quantify and analyze macroeconomic trends across a variety of industry sectors
Assess marketing and supporting materials of prospective fund managers to identify key value drivers and important areas for further investigation
Interpret financial analyses prepared by target fund managers, including investment track records, financial statement analysis and fund models
Prepare for and participate in meetings with managers and conduct on-going due diligence
Support full-time staff on sourcing and managing the inflow of investment opportunities.
Form an independent opinion about the attractiveness of a sector or investment opportunity
Construct an argument around an opinion and efficiently communicate that argument both verbally and in written materials; be able to defend position in a team environment, including Investment Committee meetings
Analyze and conduct diligence on co-investment opportunities and secondary transactions
Support full-time staff on client coverage responsibilities, including preparing client-specific portfolio management deliverables as well as speaking to investment opportunities with clients 
Skill Requirements:
 Pursuing BA/BS in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Law, Real Estate or equivalent relevant experience
High proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Demonstrated track record of academic success
Strong communication skills
Strong, demonstrable analytical capabilities, including strong quantitative/modeling skills
Team player and committed to work

Should any internship need to be offered virtually due to ongoing concerns related to the Coronavirus pandemic – SOTC will work with employers and students accordingly. This may mean an in-person programming experience with a virtual work experience OR a fully virtual work and program experience. No decisions will be made until early spring 2021 and students should anticipate that internships will either be in-person or remote with an in-person programming experience.
