Sales Representative

June - August 2018 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

The staff were friendly and very understanding. I felt valued as an employee and the training made my tasks easy to understand.

What I wish was different

I had a hard time getting references from people I spoke to and I think Cutco should teach their employees different methods of doing this.

Advice

I would advise a new employee to try new things if some methods of selling aren't working for them. Not everything works for everyone.

Sales Representative

June - August 2018 • Towson, MD

What I liked

The quality of the products I sold, the security of payment and the friendly competition in the office were all wonderful. You learn a lot about the job in a little time as well.

What I wish was different

I wish that they would have equipped us to market to other people (they made us start marketing to people we knew), as it created some tension in my community.

Advice

Believe in what you sell, listen to your managers, and never take your job too seriously. Have fun with it and, as cliche as it sounds, be yourself - otherwise you’ll end up putting on a fake version of yourself whenever you market.

Direct Marketer

June - August 2018 • Miami, FL

What I liked

I was given a wide range of autonomy and respect for my boundaries and wishes, and was able to choose my own hours. The pay was pretty good as well.

What I wish was different

The company culture, despite being overwhelmingly positive and supportive, felt cult-like at times. They are using the sense of purpose, positivity, and belonging to open a market among the friends and family of their employees - mostly impressionable teenagers that react well to the sense of accomplishment and belonging that the company tries to create. I enjoyed the positive company culture, but felt that there was something exploitative at its core.

Advice

It's a good summer job, and you will absolutely make plenty of money if you have a good work ethic and an ounce of charisma. Even if you want to take it easy and treat it like a part-time job, it is flexible and pays better than most short-term summer jobs. That being said, you will likely be pushed to aggressively market toward friends and family, which can sometimes cross boundaries into rudeness or nuisance. Be careful, think of your friends and acquaintances before your paycheck, and be sure to treat your potential customers with the utmost respect. Never be ashamed of it, make sure to follow through with the job and be confident, but be careful not to become aggressive or pushy.

Assistant Manager

June 2017 - July 2018 • Alpharetta, GA

What I liked

All the people, and meeting new people. Getting to network and meet the higher ups in the company. The conferences. Helping new reps feel welcome and comfortable with the new job.

What I wish was different

This summer would have been managed better, I moved offices and it was hard working in an office that was just starting out.

Advice

Don’t believe what others tell you about the company. Try it out and if you don’t like it, then you don’t like it.
